Community and Legal Research Foundation (TOHAV) was founded in October 1994 by 46 lawyers registered in Istanbul, Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir Barrisons, on the basis of democratic and universal legal principles.
TOHAV is a non-governmental, independent, impartial, non-political civil society organization established under the Turkish Civil Code.
TOHAV is responsible for investigating and monitoring human rights violations in all regions of Turkey. In doing so, they do not discriminate on the grounds of race, sex, religion, ethnicity, and political thought, but without any financial contribution to victims' rights seeking efforts.
Members of TOHAV consist of lawyers affiliated to Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Diyarbakır, Batman, Van and Malatya bars. TOHAV carries out its activities through member and voluntary lawyers and physicians working in the field of torture and rehabilitation.
TOHAV Headquarters is located in Istanbul. TOHAV has a Board of Directors consisting of 7 principal and 7 substitute member avukattan, and a Supervisory Board consisting of 3 principal and 3 substitute member avukattan. Members of the board of directors and the board of auditors are elected as conclusions, which are held every 2 years and the members of the foundation participate.
